Eliana is giving us more and more smiles each day. She is a little shy for the camara, but we were able to still get some cute photos of her starting to crack a smile.
Eliana nos esta dando mas y mas sonrisas cada dia. Ella es un poco timida para la camara, pero pudimos sacar algunas lindas fotos de su sonrisa.
And in this photo she is not smiling, but I still had to show you all how cute she was “holding” her bunny rattle.

Adriel had a work trip to Mexico this week. He left early Tuesday morning and returned home Thursday afternoon (earlier than originally expected). I was thrilled to have him home again. Its amazing how much easier it is to take care of Eliana with his help. I even feel more rested!! Thankfully this was his last scheduled trip for this year.
Eliana was happy to see her Dadddy again too!
Adriel tuvo un viaje de trabajo en mexico esta semana. Se fue temprano en la maña del martes y volvio el Jueves por la tarde (mas temprano que originalemente planeado). Me puse re contenta de poder tenerlo devuelta en casa. Es increible cuanto mas facil es cuidar a Eliana con su ayuda. Incluso me siento mas descansada! Estoy agradecida que este fue su ultimo viaje del año que tiene planeado.
Eliana tambien se puso muy contenta de ver a su papa!
A few new mothers and I got to thinking that getting together would be refreshing as we were feeling a little homebound. After all, we all did manage to have babies during the biggest flu breakout in the history of America. Wednesday was our first time to get together, and it proved a great success. There were five of us, all first time mothers, with babies born within 5 weeks of each other. We spent the entire time relating to one another as we shared all our new experiences, frustrations, and high points. I personally found it incredibly encouraging and really fun. I’m already looking forward to the next time we get together. I think that it could be the start of some great new friendships!
Algunas nuevas madres y yo nos pareció que juntarnos sería algo refrescante ya que nos sentimos un poco atadas a la casa. Después de todo, todas logramos tener nuestros bebes durante la epidemia de gripe más grande de la historia de los estados unidos. El miércoles fue la primera vez que nos juntamos y resulto un éxito total. Éramos cinco, todas madres primerizas, con bebes nacidos solo con 5 semanas de diferencia. Pasamos el tiempo compartiendo nuestras nuevas experiencias, frustraciones, y mejores momentos. Personalmente, me dio mucho ánimo y fue muy divertido. Ya estoy expectante para la próxima vez que nos juntemos. Me parece que puede ser el comienzo de lindas amistades!

Saturday we had to take Monica and Jeremias to the airport and say good-bye. We wish so much that we could be closer and not have to say any good-byes, or as Monica put it, “It would be so nice for you just to stop by any day and drink mate with us!” Maybe one day, but as for now, we look forward to our trip to Argentina in March. Its wierd to think that Eliana will be 6 months the next time they see her. I wonder what she’ll be doing by then.
El Sabado tuvimos que llevar a Monica y Jeremias al aeropuerto y despedirnos. Nos encantaria poder estar mas cerca y no tener que despedirnos, or como dijo Monica “Seria tan lindo simplemente poder pasar un dia y tomarnos unos mates juntos”. Quizas algun dia, pero por ahora estamos contentos de poder vernos en Marzo cuando estemos por Argentina. Es raro pensar que Eliana ya va a tener 6 meses la proxima vez que la vean. Me pregunto que va a estar haciendo para ese entonces.
Eliana’s Omi (grandmother in German) was able to stay with us for about a month and spend some quality time with her nieta (granddaughter in Spanish). Eliana loved her and by far gave her the most smiles. She was also a huge help while she was here by cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, feeding and walking Isa, keeping my flowers alive, raking leaves, and most importantly….taking care of Eliana. She gave me many opportunities to leave the house for an hour or two while I would run errands during the day and she allowed Adriel and I to go places at night while she watched Eliana. It was truly wonderful to have her here and we are missing her greatly. Thanks Omi!
La Omi (abuela en alemán) de Eliana pudo estar con nosotros por un mes y paso un lindo tiempo con su nieta. Eliana la ama y le regalo mas sonrisas que a nadie mas. También fue una tremenda ayuda al cocinar, limpiar, lavar la ropa, darle de comer y sacar a pasear a Isa, mantener las flores vivas, rastrillar las hojas secas del patio, y lo mas importante de todo… cuidar a Eliana! Me dio muchas oportunidades para salir de la casa por una hora o dos mientras que yo salía a hacer algún mandado y nos permitió salir a Adriel y a mi a la noche mientras que ella la cuidaba a Eliana. Fue realmente fantástico poder tenerla con nosotros y la vamos a extrañar mucho. Gracias Omi!
Jeremias, Eliana’s tio (uncle in Spanish), was also here and gave Eliana lots of extra attention. We are so happy for the time he got to spend with her and we are hoping for much more tio time in the future!
Jeremias, el tio, tambien estuvo con nosotros y le dio a Eliana un monton de atencion extra. Nos alegramos de todo el tiempo que pudo pasar con ella y esperamos que pueda pasar mucho mas tiempo con su tio en el futuro!
Monica brought lots of Mate with her, and I think she has made Mate every day since she has been here. Adriel is a social Mate drinker and has appreciated it these last few weeks as well. Eliana can’t have any yet…but I’m sure she will learn to love it one day!
Mónica trajo mucho Mate y yo pienso que ella esta haciendo Mate todos los días mientras esta acá. Adriel es un matero y está disfrutando esto en estas últimas semanas. Eliana no puede tomar todavía… pero yo estoy segura que ella va a tomar mate y le va a gustar algún día!
Adriel received 4 great indoor tickets to todays Razorback game, so all 5 of us, including Eliana, went to cheer on the Hogs. When we got to our gate, they told us that Eliana also needed a ticket to get in. We were a little surprised that a newborn need $150 ticket to sleep in her parent’s arms during the game. Thankfully, they gave us an extra ticket they had on hand so we could take her in. She did great by sleeping for the first hour in her sling, then drinking from a bottle from her daddy, and sleeping the last quarter of the game again in her sling. We were extremely grateful for such a good baby, as I’m sure the people around us would not have been too happy with our decision to bring her if it were otherwise.
Adriel recibió 4 entradas de platea cubierta muy buena para el partido de hoy de los Razorbacks, así que los 5, incluyendo a Eliana, fuimos a alentar a los Jabalíes (el equipo de futbol americano la Universidad local). Cuando llegamos a la puerta, nos dijeron que Eliana también necesitaba una entrada para ingresar. Nos sorprendimos mucho que un recién nacido necesitaba una entrada de $150 para dormir en los brazos de sus papas durante el partido. Menos mal, nos dieron una entrada gratis para que pase. Eliana se porto muy bien al dormir la primer hora, después tomo una mamadera provista por su papa, y durmió otra vez hasta el final del partido. Estamos muy agradecidos por tener una beba tan buena, así como todos los que teníamos cerca, que no hubieran estado tan felices con nosotros si no hubiera sido de esa forma.
I think the part that exhausted me the most was the walk back up the Razorback hill to our car with Eliana in the sling. It was a workout!
Me parece que la parte mas cansadora de todo fue la caminata de vuelta al escalar una colina con Eliana para llegar al auto. Que ejercicio!
Last night Eliana beat her all time record of sleeping 5 1/2 hours by sleeping 6 hours and 15 minutes. However, I woke up at 1:00, her normal wake up time, and started panicking that she wasn’t making any noise. I listened for about 15 minutes before waking Adriel up and asking if he knew for sure the monitor was working. He assured me that he KNEW it was working, and I fell back asleep. At 1:30 I started panicking again, but was comforted by a small little cooing sound. By 2:00 (the 6 hour mark), I was preparing myself for the worst. I convinced myself that something terrible was wrong. I woke Adriel up again and asked him as calmly as I could if he thought Eliana was still breathing. Being the great husband he was, he got up and checked on Eliana for me and came back with the great news that she was moving her head…clearly a sign of a breathing baby! 15 minutes later, I was wishing I had checked myself, wondering if Adriel was right about his previous assessment. At this point, Eliana started crying, and alas I was confident she was still alive!
Anoche Eliana rompió su propio record de dormir 5 horas y media al dormir 6 horas y 15 minutos. De todos modos, me desperté a la 1am, a la hora que se despierta normalmente, y me agarro el pánico que Eliana no hacía nada de ruido. Trate de escuchar unos 15 minutos antes de despertarlo a Adriel para preguntarle si estaba seguro que el monitor (que monitorea movimiento) estaba funcionando. El me aseguro que estaba SEGURO que estaba funcionando, y se volvió a dormir. A las 1:30am, me agarro el pánico otra vez, pero me calmo el escuchar un ruidito de su voz. A las 2am (marcando las 6 horas), me estaba preparando para lo peor. Estaba convencida que algo estaba mal. Lo desperté a Adriel otra vez y le pregunte, lo mas calmada posible, si el pensaba que Eliana todavía respiraba. Siendo el gran esposo que es, se levanto y fue a ver como estaba y volvió con las excelentes noticias que estaba moviendo la cabeza… claramente una señal de un bebe que respira! 15 minutos mas tarde, estaba deseando que yo hubiera chequeado por mi misma, dudando si Adriel estuvo bien en su previa evaluación. En ese momento, Eliana empezó a llorar, y sin duda supe que estaba viva!!
I think Eliana is like her mom, a morning girl. After she wakes up, eats, and is dressed for the day, she sits in her boppy and listens to some Einstein Baby classical music. She listens, seemingly content, for about 20 minutes before she wants to do something else…like take another nap!
Me parece que Eliana salio a la madre, mañanera. Despues de que se levanta, come, y se viste para el dia, se sienta en su almohadita y escucha su musica clasica de “Bebe Einstein”. Ella escucha, aparentemente contenta, por 20 minutos antes de querer hacer algo diferente… como por ejemplo dormirse otra siesta!
I started pumping a week ago and have enjoyed the small amount of freedom it has given me. Now Adriel can give her a bottle while I go and do something outside the house for a little while. Adriel enjoys the time with her as well.
La semana pasada empezamos con un poquito de mamadera y he disfrutado un poco de la libertad que esto me ha dado. Ahora Adriel le puede dar de comer mientras yo salgo a hacer algo fuera de la casa por un rato. Adriel tambien disfruta del tiempo que puede pasar con ella.
