Fun in the snow / Diversion en la nieve

We took advantage of the snow and went to my friend Jen’s house to sled down their great hill. Eliana got her first ride down the hill with her daddy. She didn’t even crack a smile, but she still looked cute in her snow suit…that alone made it all worth it! Jen was nice enough to take her back inside so Adriel and I could sled a little longer.

Aprovechamos la nieve y fuimos a la casa de mi amiga Jen para deslizarnos en trineos de plastico en una buena colina que tienen en su propiedad. Eliana tuvo su primer experiencia de deslizarce en la nieve con su papi. Ni siquiera sonrio, pero igual estaba muy linda en su traje de nieve… lo cual hizo que valga la pena! Jen fue muy buena y la llevo a Eliana adentro mientras que Adriel y yo aprovechamos a jugar en la nieve un rato mas.

 

Once back inside we enjoyed some great adult fellowship while Eliana was entertained with the kids playing around her.

Una vez que volvimos adentro, disfrutamos de buena compañia con otros adultos mientras que Eliana se entretuvo con los chicos jugando a su alrededor.

Shoveling snow / Sacando la nieve con pala

We drove back home from St. Louis right after  ice and snow hit Arkansas. We were glad to arrive home safely, even though we postponed our return until Saturday. Honestly the roads were clear on Saturday until we hit the state line and entered into Arkansas, where we had to begin driving in one lane almost the rest of the way home. This is the most snow we have seen in Arkansas since we have lived here with 6-8 inches. It was enough snow to make Adriel shovel our driveway…a first for us in Arkansas.

Volvimos de St Louis justo despues de una helada y nevada en Arkansas. Estamos contentos de haber llegado a casa sanos y salvos, aunque tuvimos que posponer nuestro regreso hasta el sabado. Honestamente las rutas estaban limpias hasta que llegamos a Arkansas, donde tuvimos que manejar en un solo carril porque el otro estaba todo lleno de nieve. Esta es la mayor cantidad de nieve que hemos visto en Arkansas desde que vivimos aca, entre 15 y 20 centimetros. Hubo suficiente nieve para que Adriel tenga que sacar con pala la nieve de la entrada para el coche… la primera para nosotros en Arkansas!

Passport pictures are always bad / Fotos de pasaportes siempre salen mal

Eliana has her passport! Its funny how passport pictures are always bad…even as a baby!

Eliana tiene pasaporte! Es gracioso como las fotos de pasaporte siempre salen mal… hasta las fotos de bebe!

 

4 Months! / 4 Meses!

Eliana turned 4 months on Friday. She seems to be enjoying life. She is usually full of smiles but she has become a little bit more of a serious baby. Here are some things that Eliana has started doing that we enjoy:

1. Laughing when she gets tickled

2. Sitting up in her bumbo chair while she watches her mom get ready, cook, eat, ect.

 3. Playing with her toys with both hands

4. Standing on our laps

 5. Playing in her exersaucer

 Some things that Eliana does now that we don’t enjoy:

 1. Crying in her car seat

2. Spitting out all the cereal we attempt to feed her

3. Grunting

4. Changing any sort of schedule about every other day

We can’t believe its been 4 months already. It’s been great watching her grow and show more and more of her personality. She’s filled our lives with lots of joy!

El viernes, Eliana cumplio 4 meses. Ella parece estar disfrutando de la vida. Generalmente esta llena de sonrisas pero se ha vuelto un poquito mas seria últimamente. Acá están algunas de las cosas que Eliana ha empezado a hacer que nosotros disfrutamos:

1. Sonriendo cuando le hacemos cosquillas
2. Sentándose en su sillita mientras mira como mami cocina, come, etc.
3. Jugando con sus juguetes con dos manos
4. Parándose en nuestra falda
5. Jugando en su ejercitador de piernas

Algunas de las cosas que ahora hace Eliana que no disfrutamos tanto:

1. Llora en su silla del auto
2. Escupe todo el Nestum que le queremos dar
3. Gruñe
4. Cambia sus horarios casi todos los días

No podemos creer que ya han pasado 4 meses. Ha sido increíble verla crecer y mostrar mas y mas de su personalidad. Nos ha llenado la vida con muchísima alegría!

Week in St Louis / Semana en St Louis

Adriel is having to travel a lot this year for work, so we are doing all we can as a family to be together if at all possible. This week he had meetings in St. Louis and he took us along. We’re glad for a husband/daddy who loves us enough to do this. I’m sure it’s a little embarrassing to walk into a nice hotel with your wife, daughter and ALL their stuff, including a baby tub, mobile, bumbo chair, three suitcases, ect. for a short week of meetings and run into your coworkers in the lobby who only have a small bag with them. It says a lot for the great man that Adriel is! I’m also grateful for my job that is flexible enough for me to travel at the drop of a hat, and God blessed us with a baby who is being very flexible!

Eliana and I had a good time relaxing in our nice room at the Westin, smack dab in the middle of downtown St. Louis. I could see the arch from our window! I’ve been able to take a relaxing bath, read lots, work out in their nice fitness center, and take long naps. Since we were all in one room, I pretty much had to sleep when Eliana slept because the room needed to stay dark and quite….so her three-hour nap wednesday afternoon was a treat!

The highlight of the trip was dinner with the Campos Tueday night at their house. Tyler is one of Adriel’s college friends and his wife, Jill, had a baby a week and a half before Eliana was born. Luca is another super cute and happy baby. It was fun to see him and Eliana together. Although, I have to say that I’m a little jealous of how much hair he has compared to Eliana! Adriel and I both thoroughly enjoyed talking with Jill and Tyler as we relate to the whole new parenthood bit!

Adriel está teniendo que viajar un montón por trabajo este año, así que estamos haciendo todo lo que podemos como familia para estar juntos como sea posible. Esta semana tuvo reuniones en St Louis y nos trajo con el. Estamos contentos de tener un marido/papa que nos ama tanto para hacer esto. Estoy segura que es un poco vergonzoso el entrar un hotel de lujo con tu esposa, hija, y TODO el equipaje, incluyendo la bañadera, los juguetes, la sillita, tres valijas, etc, para una corta semana de reuniones y encontrarte con un compañero de trabajo en el lobby del hotel que solo tiene una pequeña valija. Esto dice mucho del gran hombre que es Adriel! También estoy agradecida por mi trabajo que es flexible y me permite viajar así de rápido, y Dios nos ha bendecido con un bebe que también está siendo muy flexible!

Eliana y yo la pasamos muy bien relajándonos en nuestra habitación del hotel Westin, en el corazón de la ciudad de St Louis. Podia ver el Arco de St Louis desde la ventana! Pude tomarme unos relajantes baños, leer mucho, ejercitarme en el GYM del hotel, y dormir buenas siestas. Ya que estamos todos en una sola pieza, tuve que dormir cuando Eliana dormia porque la habitación necesitaba estar oscura y en silencio… asi que su siesta de tres horas el mericoles por la tarde fue una maravilla!

Lo mas destacado del viaje fue cenar en la casa de los Campo el Martes. Tyler, un amigo de la universidad de Adriel, y su esposa Jill tuvieron un bebe una semana y media antes que naciera Eliana. Luca es otro bebe super lindo y feliz. De todos modos, tengo que decir que estoy un poco celosa de cuanto pelo tiene Luca comparado a Eliana! Adriel y yo disfrutamos un montón nuestras charlas con Tyler y Jill ya que nos relacionamos mucho en todo este aprendizaje de ser padres.

 

The mustache / El bigote

Since this is a blog about my family, I feel compelled to post about my husband’s mustache. He grew a winter beard starting when Eliana was born, but with his recent trip to Chile he decided that his beard was no longer needed due to the warmer weather he encountered and will be encountering with his upcoming trips. So, this morning Adriel shaved, but he left a mustache as a joke. The sad part is that I personally think he liked it, or he would have shaved it off before I had to beg him to. He finally consented….but not without a picture first!

Ya que este es un blog sobre mi familia, me siento obligada a poner algo sobre el bigote de mi esposo. Durante el invierno se dejo la barba, comenzando cuando nació Eliana, pero con el reciente viaje a Chile decidió que la barba ya no es necesaria dado el clima mas caluroso con el que se encontró y se encontrara en sus próximos viajes. Así que Adriel se afeitó, pero se dejo un bigote como chiste. La parte mas triste es que me parece que a él le gusto, o sino se lo hubiera afeitado antes de que yo le tenga que rogar. Al final concedió… pero no sin una foto!

Daddy’s home! / Papi volvio a casa!

I am so glad to say that my week as a single mom is over. Adriel left for Chile (South America) last Saturday, and all was well before he left. I think Eliana picked up on the fact that her daddy had left rather quickly because that night before bed she started eating double what she usually does. By Monday she was eating every 2 hours, being extremely fussy between feedings, not sleeping the night through, and requiring 100% attention from her mom. Tuesday seemed a little better and I was hopeful. Thursday when she woke up, I went into her room and said “good morning Eliana” and that’s when the crying started…or should I say bawling started. Later I realized she had a low grade fever, so I assumed she was teething. Thankfully my friend Jen came over and kept me sane until my husband returned the following day. Unfortunately he returned to a not so clean house, piles of laundry that needed folded, and dishes that needed to be done. He didn’t seem to mind though as he was so happy to see his girls again, and not surprisingly, Eliana was a perfect angel and full of smiles. We sure missed him…me especially! I’m already dreading his next trip.

Estoy muy contenta de poder decir que mi semana como madre soltera ha terminado. Adriel salió para Santiago, Chile el sábado pasado, y todo estaba bien cuando salió. Creo que Eliana supo rápidamente que su papi se había ido porque esa misma noche empezó a comer el doble de lo usual. Para el Lunes ya estaba comiendo cada 2 horas, de mal humor, no durmiendo toda la noche, y requiriendo el 100% de la atención de su mama. El Martes fue un poco mejor y me esperancé. El jueves cuando se despertó fui a su pieza y le dije “buenos días Eliana” y fue ahí que comenzó el llanto… o mejor dicho comenzó el sollozo. Mas tarde me di cuenta que tenía una leve fiebre, así que asumí que empezó con su dentición. Gracias a Dios, mi amiga Jen me vino a ayudar y me mantuvo cuerda hasta que mi marido volvió al próximo día. Desafortunadamente volvió a una casa que no estaba limpia y ordenada, pilas de ropa para lavar y doblar, y platos que necesitaban ser lavados. A él pareció no importarle ya que estaba feliz de ver sus chicas otra vez, y sin ser sorpresa, Eliana fue un perfecto ángel llena de sonrisas. Lo extrañamos mucho… yo especialmente! Y ya me pone triste el pensar en su próximo viaje.

She rolled over! / Se dio vuelta!

Well the title says it all….my little girl rolled over for the very first time, and I’m so proud!

El titulo lo dice todo… nuestra pequeña se dio vuelta por si sola por primera vez, estoy tan orgullosa!!
