Time is “swinging” by / El tiempo se pasa “hamacando”

Where has the time gone? I think due to the crazy holiday schedule, time seems to have gone even faster since Noelia was born. To be honest, only part of me wants things to slow down. I do desire to enjoy every stage, smile, coo, and beautiful moments with Noelia, but because these moments are very rare for our sweet baby, I often catch myself wishing time would continue speeding up until she reaches a more pleasant age…an age where she realizes life isn’t so bad after all and where mommy can get more sleep.

A donde se ha ido el tiempo? Creo que debido a la locura de las fiestas, el tiempo parece haberse ido mas rapido desde que nacio Noelia. Para ser honesta, solo parte de mi quiere que las cosas se desaceleren. Deseo el disfrutar cada etapa, sonrisa, sonido, y hermosos momentos con Noelia, pero dado que esos momentos son esporadicos para nuestra dulce bebe, de amenudo me encuentro deseando que el tiempo continue pasando rapido hasta alcanzar una etapa mas placentera… una edad donde ella se da cuenta que la vida no es tan mala despues de todo y que su mami pude dormir un poco mas.

On Wednesday, January 18th, she turned 2 months and had her 2 month well check. Here is what we found out:

- Noelia is now 11lbs and 11 ounces and about 23 inches long (we didn’t get an accurate height).

El miercoles, 18 de Enero, ella cumplio 2 meses y tuvo su chequeo con el doctor. Esto es lo que descubrimos:

- Noelia pesa 5.300kg y mide casi 60 cm.

- Noelia is developmentally normal.

-Noelia is a sensitive baby (I already knew this:)

- Noelia has congestion with a double ear infection.

That’s what the doctor can tell me, but here is what we have learned about her this past 2 months:

-Noelia cries a lot. Her happy times are anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes immediately after she eats.

- She loves to smile, coo, and even kind of giggle only in the above happy time frame.

- Noelia se esta desarrollando normalmente

- Noelia es una bebe sensible (ya sabia esto)

- Noelia tiene una congestión y una doble infección de oído

Eso es lo que el doctor me pudo decir, pero acá va lo que nosotros hemos aprendido estos 2 meses:

-Noelia llora mucho. Sus momentos de felicidad son entre 5 y 30 minutos inmediatamente después de que come.

-Le encanta sonreír, hacer sonidos, e incluso a veces reírse (dentro del marco del momento de felicidad mencionado anteriormente)

 

- She likes to be warm at all times.

- She LOVES the swing and still spends about 6 to 8 hours a day in her swing. She takes all her naps in her swing. When out of her swing, and not during her happy times, she demands some sort of strong back and forth motion. Sometimes a moving car will do.

- Since she spends the majority of her time in the swing, she doesn’t do any tummy time. But, she is strong and seems to be able to control her head well.

- She likes getting a bath. This is also another happy time.

-we’ve been to the emergency room once with her for a high fever. She’s been sick for over a week, and is currently on antibiotics. And due to her lack of health, she has still not received any immunizations.

-She hates going to sleep at night, but once she finally does, she sleeps anywhere from 4 1/2 hours to 8 1/2 hours at one time. The large gap is perplexing to us as well.

And most of all, she is loved more than anyone can imagine by her Papi, Mami, and big sister. She is our precious Noelia Sarah!

- Le encanta estar calentita en todo momento

-AMA la hamaca. Todavía pasa 6 a 8 horas por día y duerme todas sus siestas en la hamaca. Cuando la sacamos de ahí, y todavía no es su momento de felicidad, ella demanda algún tipo de movimiento brusco. A veces un auto en movimiento lo logra.

-Como pasa la mayoría del tiempo en la hamaca, no ha pasado tiempo boca abajo. Pero ella es fortachona y parece controlar bien su cabeza.

- Le encanta su baño. Este es otro de sus momentos felices donde todo es calmo.

-Ya hemos tenido que ir a la sala de emergencia una vez por una temperatura alta, ha estado enferma por una semana y en este momento esta tomando antibióticos. Y dada su pobre salud, todavía no ha recibido ninguna inmunización.

-No le gusta irse a dormir a la noche, pero una vez que lo hace, duerme entre 4 horas y media a 8 horas y media de una vez.  La enorme diferencia también nos deja perplejos.

Y mas que nada, recibe mas amor del imaginable de su papi, mami, y hermana mayor. Ella es nuestra preciosa Noelia Sarah.

Reyes

Adriel grew up with the tradition of celebrating January 6th in honor of the wisemen that brought gifts to baby Jesus, and thus we are starting this same tradition in our home. After reading and trying to explain to Eliana the significance of the wisemen, we had her put her favorite black shoes underneath the Christmas tree along with grass and water for the camels. The next morning her shoes were filled with some small treats and the water and grass were gone, all indicating that the wisemen had come, bearing gifts.

Adriel creció en Argentina donde tienen la tradición de celebrar el 6 de Enero el día de los Reyes Magos quienes trajeron regalos al bebe Jesús, así que empezamos esta tradición en nuestro hogar. Después de leer y tratar de explicarle a Eli el significado de los Reyes Magos, le dejamos que ponga sus zapatos preferidos debajo del arbolito de Navidad, así como pasto y agua para los camellos. A la mañana siguiente sus zapatos estaban llenos de pequeños regalitos, y el agua y el pasto desaparecieron, todo pareciendo indicar que los Reyes Magos habían venido, trayendo regalos.

Not only did starting this new tradition bring Eliana some joy, but it gave me a great excuse to leave the Christmas tree up. From now on, we won’t be taking down the decorations until January 7th.

Empezar esta tradición no solo le trajo alegría a Eliana, pero me dio una gran excusa para dejar el arbolito armado por mas tiempo. De ahora en más, no vamos a desarmar las decoraciones navideñas hasta el 7 de Enero.

We love Omi / Amamos a Omi

Omi came to help us out for 3 weeks after Noelia was born, and as mentioned before, she was a huge help. We had to say good-bye to her on the 5th of this month. It was hard for all of us to see her leave. Eliana was crying later that afternoon, and I asked her if she was sad because Omi was gone. She sobbed a “yes” and we hugged. Eliana is still missing her and all the special playtime she got with her. And I’m missing all that time not having to think about what to do with Eliana. She is constantly going and somehow Omi had the gift of keeping up with her. We miss you Omi.

Omi nos vino a ayudar por 3 semanas despues que nacio Noelia, y como mencionamos antes, nos ayudo tremendamente. Nos tuvimos que despedir de ella el 5 de este mes. Fue dificil para todos nosotros el verla partir. Eliana lloro esa tarde, y le pregunte si estaba triste porque se habia ido Omi, y con un llanto dijo “Si” y me abrazo. Eliana todavia la extraña y todo el tiempo de juego que tuvo con ella. Y yo extraño todo ese tiempo que no tenia que pensar que hacer con Eliana. Ella esta constantemete queriendo hacer algo y de alguna manera Omi tiene el don de mantenerla ocupada. Te extrañamos Omi.

Special visits along the way / Visitas especiales

While we were in Marion, we took an evening to visit my grandparents. It was one of the most special times I have had with them as we got to introduce Noelia to them, their 13th great-grandchild. Grandma still has the touch, staying completely calm while Noelia screamed her head off. Grandpa, although looking flustered in this picture, was also very reassuring that Noelia was just fine despite her tears.

Mientras que estuvimos en Marion, aprovechamos una tarde para visitar a mis abuelos. Fue unos de los momentos mas lindos que he tenido con ellos ya que pudimos presentarles a Noelia, su decimotercer nieta/o. La abue todavia tiene cancha, estando totalmente calma mientras que Noelia gritaba desesperadamnete. El abuelo, aunque parece estar un poquito nervioso en esta foto, tambien estuvo tranquilo a pesar de las lagrimas de Noelia.

On our 12 hour trip home from Marion, we did get the chance to stop a couple of times to see some friends and family. One such visit was at Cracker Barrell, meeting my Uncle Dan and Aunt Melody. Monica hasn’t seen them for over a year now, since they moved to Indiana from Argentina. It was a great reunion of two wonderful friends and of family.

En nuestro viaje de regreso de 12 horas, pudimos parar un par de veces a ver a amigos y familiares. Una de esas visitas fue en Cracker Barrel, al encontrarnos con mis tios Dan y Melody. Monica no los habia visto ya por mas de un año, ya que se mudaron a Indiana desde Argentina. Fue un gran encuentro de dos lindas amigas y de familia.

Did you get the swing? / Trajiste la hamaca?

Since Noelia demands on average of 6 to 8 hours a day in her swing, swinging at the highest speed of 6, we made sure to take it apart and pack it so we would have it while visiting my family in Indiana. The trip to Ligonier was incredibly smooth, mainly due to the fact that a moving car is equal to the swing. We only had to stop for feedings about every 3 hours, and we got a stop in Marion at my parent’s house for dinner and Eliana’s bath. When we arrived at Anne and Nate’s house we immediately set up our swing, to be used bright and early the next morning to pacify Noelia back to sleep.

Noelia cried the majority of our time visiting friends, who didn’t have swings. But after explaining our little girl’s personality, everyone seemed sympathetic towards all the crying instead of annoyed. Or, we just have some really great friends.

Ya que Noelia demanda en promedio 6 a 8 horas por día en su hamaca (a la mayor velocidad: “6”) nos aseguramos de desarmarlo y cargarlo en el auto para llevarlo en nuestro viaje a Indiana. El viaje a Ligonier fue muy tranquilo, mayormente porque un auto en movimiento es igual a una hamaca. Solo tuvimos que parar para darle de comer a Noe cada 3 horas, y pudimos parar en Marion, en la casa de mis papas, para cenar y bañar a Eli. Cuando llegamos a la casa de Anne y Nate armamos la hamaca inmediatamente para usarla bien temprano la próxima madrugada cuando seria necesario calmarla.

Noelia lloro la mayor parte de nuestras visitas con amigos, quienes no tenían hamacas. Pero después de explicarles sobre la personalidad de nuestra pequeña, todos parecieron mostrarnos simpatía por el llanto, en vez de estar molestos, o simplemente tenemos los mejores amigos.

Our time with Nate, Anne, and the kids was great. Nate and Adriel even enjoyed some random wrestling matches, a sure sign that they were happy to see one another. I especially enjoyed our game time playing a new game called Quirkle, which ended unfairly, but was easy for me to explain why I should of and would have won if the rules were written differently. Ironically, Anne seemed to have lost sleep over her loss as well and was able to clearly give reason why she would have been the winner if….(I’ll leave it at that).

Nuestro tiempo con Nate, Anne, y los chicos estuvo muy lindo. Nate y Adriel incluso se divirtieron con algunas luchas libres entre ellos, una señal que estaban contentos de verse. Yo especialmente disfrute un nuevo juego de mesa llamado Quirkle, el cual termino injustamente, pero fue fácil para mi explicar porque tendría que haber (y hubiera) ganado si las reglas estarían escritas de otra forma. Irónicamente, Anne pareció no haber dormido bien pensando también en haber perdido, y pudo dar razones muy claras por las cuáles ella hubiera ganado si…  (lo dejo ahí).

On Saturday, we drove back to Marion to reconnect with Adriel’s mom (who stayed with my parents while we were in Ligonier) and to celebrate New Years with the entire family. I might write this every time I leave a family get together, but it was one of my favorite times with all of us together. We have a pretty incredible and incredibly fun family!

El Sábado, manejamos hasta Marion para celebrar con toda la familia junta el año nuevo. Puede que escriba esto cada vez que me despido de mi familia después de estar juntos, pero fue una de mis visitas preferidas al estar todos juntos. Tenemos una familia increíble e increíblemente divertida!

Our trip home was the only downer, as we repeatedly got stuck in a snow storm, traffic jams, and had a hungry baby. But, 12 hours later, we finally made it. Now we begin the process of beginning a new year at home with two children…and a swing!

Nuestro viaje de regreso a casa fue lo unico malo de todo, ya que nos agarro una tormenta de nieve, trafico, y una bebe hambrienta. Pero, 12 horas mas tarde, finalmente lo logramos. Ahora comenzamos el proceso de comenzar un nuevo año en casa con dos niñas… y una hamaca!

Christmas is here / Llego la Navidad

Although Eliana still doesn’t understand the reason for Christmas, it sure was fun to see her light up when she opened her gifts. We thought we were going to have a small little Christmas this year, but with Omi and my parents being here, Eliana was thoroughly spoiled.

After stockings, a large breakfast, reading the Christmas story, gift opening, and another large lunch our Christmas was a success We truly enjoyed the day and time with family. Thankfully, even though my parents had to leave, Omi was staying…a Christmas extension.

Aunque Eliana todavia no entiende la razon de la Navidad, fue muy lindo ver su entusiasmo al abrir sus regalos. Pensamos que ibamos a tener una pequeña Navidad este año, pero con Omi y mis papas aca, Eliana estubo totalmente malcriada.

Despues de abrir las botas, comer un gran desayuno, leer la historia de Navidad, abrir regalos, y comer otro gran almuerzo, nuestra Navidad fue todo un exito Realmente disfrutamos el dia y tiempo en familia.

Christmas Eve / Noche Buena

This Christmas Eve began with empanada making. We hosted a Christmas Eve lunch with my parents and one of Adriel’s co-worker and his family as our guests. Omi made the empanadas with the help of Adriel folding them.

Esta noche buena comenzo haciendo empanadas. Tuvimos un almuerzo con mis papas y la familia de uno de los compañeros de trabajo de Adriel, como invitados. Omi hizo las empanadas con la ayuda de Adriel en el repulgue.

And then the kids (and the adults) enjoyed putting together a ginger bread house.

Los chicos (y adultos) disfrutaron de armar y decorar una casita de gengibre.

 

That evening we went to a Christmas Eve service at our church followed by more empanada eating when we got home. Before bed, we opened our one gift, which happens to always be new pajamas. Eliana was already feeling the excitement of Christmas!

Esa noche fuimos a la reunion de Noche Buena de la iglesia, seguido de cenar mas empanadas al llegar a casa. Antes de irnos a la cama, abrimos un regalo, lo cual siempre sucede ser nuevos pijamas. Eliana ya sentia el entusiasmo de la navidad!

Date night..post 2 kids / Salida… despues de 2 nenas

Adriel took me on a date; our first date post two children. It was made possible by Omi, who watched them both while we enjoyed an incredible meal at the Melting Pot.

Adriel me llevo a comer afuera; nuestra primera salida despues de tener la segunda bebe. Fue posible gracias a Omi, quien cuido de las nenas mientras que nosotros disfrutamos una cena increible en le restaurante de fondue: “The Melting Pot“

In the eyes of a two year old / Desde la vista de una niña de 2 años

A few weeks before Christmas, Adriel took the opportunity during Eliana’s nap to go put up a few Christmas lights outside. When Eliana woke up, I told her that her Papi was outside working on putting up some lights and when it got dark we took her outside to see them lit up. Her response was, “Papi do it?”. The answer: “yes”.

Later that week, we pointed out other neighborhood lights to Eliana, and her response was again, “Papi do it”. We just laughed and moved on. But when we were driving towards downtown St. Louis and she saw neighborhoods full of lights, she exclaimed, “Papi do it! Yaaa, Papi!” At this moment, Adriel felt like a hero. His two year old believed he could do anything, including putting Christmas lights up around the entire world.

One things for sure….he sure has been busy…..or it was just one really long nap!

Unas semanas antes de Navidad, Adriel aprovecho la oportunidad durante la siesta de Eliana para colgar algunas luces de Navidad afuera de la casa. Cuando Eli se levanto le conté que Papi estaba afuera trabajando en colgar las luces, y cuando oscureció la llevamos afuera para que las vea prendidas. Su respuesta fue “papi do it?” (Papi lo hizo?) la respuesta “si”.

Esa semana le mostramos a Eli otras casas que también tenían luces y su respuesta otra vez fue “Papi do it!”. Nos reímos y seguimos adelante. Pero mientras que íbamos manejando hacia el centro de St Louis y vimos un barrio lleno de luces, ella exclamo, “Papi do it!” Yeeeiii Papi!”. En ese momento Adriel se sintió como un héroe. Su hija de dos años creyó que él podría hacer TODO, incluyendo colgar luces alrededor del mundo entero!

Bath time / Baño

Eliana has been such a big helper with her sister Noelia. This is the first time we let her help us with Noe’s bath.

Eliana ha sido una gran ayudante con su hermana Noelia. Esta fue la primera vez que la dejamos ayudarnos con el baño de Noe.
